How are rubies formed?
Each gemstone has a unique chemical composition, which determines its physical properties. Rubies, in particular, are formed from corundum and aluminium oxide, with traces of chromium and iron which create their range or red hues from pinkish to purplish to brownish red. Rubies require very specific geological conditions for formation if there is a high content of silica or iron present in their environment, the rubies are unable to develop.
