How to measure your ring size at home

Whether you’re simply wondering what your own ring size is, or you’re searching for your partner’s ring size to plan the perfect surprise proposal, there are a few top tips you can conduct at home:

  • Measure the inside of another ring that fits – by using a tape measure, you could measure another ring which you know fits well. That way, you can take the measurement to the jewellers and they can advise you what size it is.

  • Measure multiple times – measuring about 3 or 4 times at different points in the day will provide the most accuracy – as your finger is at it’s largest at the end of the day, and when you are in a warm environment.

  • In between sizes? – if the ring falls between two sizes, it’s always advised to order the larger size up.

How to know your ring size – does it fit properly?

  • Fit – the ring should be snug enough that it won’t fall off, but loose enough to slide up and over your knuckle with ease.

  • Fluctuation – it’s important to remember when you’re trying on rings, that temperature can affect your finger size. For example, if you’re in a warm room, your fingers are likely to have swollen more than if you were outside in the cold. It can also fluctuate due to activities you are doing, or your diet.

Average ring size for women

The average ring size for women in the UK is between size L and size N – with the most common ring size for engagement rings being size L.

Average ring size for men

S or T are typically the most popular ring size for men in the UK. The most commonly purchased men’s rings range between size P and U.
